Pointing at the Moon

We cannot control life; rather, we should let life control us.

We don’t know where we are coming from and where we are headedwhich means that we don’t really know where we are and what this is all about. We are perplexed by this journey called life.

On top of everything else, we gradually realize that our journey will end in destruction. We will become dust on the earth we currently walk on. It’s no wonder that this journey feels unsafe.

ONE OF OUR DEEPEST needs is therefore to find safety amid this immense insecurity. But can we find safety anywhere? Is there anything that could show us the meaning of life? Or are we at the mercy of chaotic forces on the way to our inevitable desctruction?

This is such a fundamental question that any attempts at an answer tend to sound clichéd or create apprehension. Superficial answers and words of consolation seem hollow in the face of such archetypal distress.

EVEN THOUGH WORDS are just words, they can serve as signposts that give us direction, much like a finger that points at the moon: the finger is not the answer, but it points at the answer.

We are deeply anchored in this physical reality, bound here by our senses. This is why we instinctively seek to find safety here.

But we cannot find it here. We must seek elsewhere, deeper, higher, behind everything.

WE WILL FIND safety when we surrender to insecurity. We will then find that we cannot create the safety we seek on our own, nor can we reach it here. When this is revealed to us, we will begin to open ourselves to the incredible fact that we can find safety within.

In the mystery within. In the pale moon at which the finger points.
